BOOK A WRITING WORKSHOP FOR YOUR STUDENTS.

LET NANCY ROE PIMM TEACH YOUR STUDENTS THE CRAFT OF WRITING NARRATIVE NONFICTION AND INSPIRE THEM TO FOLLOW DREAMS OF THEIR OWN!

November 20, 2021

If you are looking for an author that engages your students, collaborates with teachers and librarians to make her visit impactful, and has books for all ages, please consider Nancy Roe Pimm.  Our middle school students had the good fortune to have her visit with us twice!  Her first visit was during the 2020 school year when in-person visits were not possible.  Her virtual visit with 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students was inspiring and focused on following your dreams.  It was a perfect message for all students.

NARRATIVE NONFICTION

Nancy’s second visit was in-person and consisted of a two-day writing workshop for 8th graders.  Her focus was helping them understand how to write narrative nonfiction.  Prior to her visit, she collaborated with me to make her time with them more meaningful. She gave them helpful tips and with a pre-visit activity, helped them jump-start their own narrative nonfiction story writing.  Nancy Roe Pimm was interesting and fun, with lots of stories to share with kids. I highly recommend her.

TWO AUTHORS TO MAKE FOR ONE GREAT DAY!

The dynamic duo of Nancy Roe Pimm and Carmella Van Vleet can work magic in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade.  They provide an entertaining and educational school visit about following your dreams and the writing process.  Having two authors can provide more of a warm and cherished visit as they can utilize their time with smaller groups working simultaneously.

The children were so excited when they could purchase one of their books and had it signed by the author.  Their visit to our school was a highlight of our school year.  Thank you to an amazing team that works so well together and provides an extraordinary enrichment to our reading and writing  program.

I am the School Librarian at St.Brigid in Dublin, Ohio. In May of 2017 we had Nancy Roe Pimm come in to do an author visit with grades 5-8. It was just a fantastic day for both teachers and students! Mrs. Pimm started with a very engaging large group presentation which detailed her writing process, as well as her life story. The clear message that she had for these middle schoolers was to Follow Your Dreams. She carried this message throughout the day as she lunched with our Power of the Pen students, and signed copies of her books. Mrs.Pimm found a way to connect with each student she met, she has a true gift with this challenging middle school age!

Grades 6-8 had the opportunity to do a non-fiction writing workshop with Mrs.Pimm. The quality of writing that she was able to pull out of these students was remarkable. At the end of each workshop students were able to volunteer to read their non-fiction piece to the group. Mrs.Pimm not only gave them immediate feedback, she provided them with an authentic audience. I would highly recommend Nancy Roe Pimm for an author visit!

Our fourth and fifth grade students loved the nonfiction interactive writing sessions with author Nancy Roe Pimm. They were able to take her tips on finding ideas, researching, finding experts, organizing, revising, hooks and closure to the next level in their own writing. We even had a student who revised their own work between the morning and afternoon sessions using the author’s suggestions. We have some very successful nonfiction writers who loved sharing their work and will become better writers because of Nancy Roe Pimm’s visit. Thanks for such a creative day!

West Elementary, Athens, Ohio May 2014

Having Nancy Roe Pimm visit was a life-changing experience for our students. The entire student-body was energized by her great variety of stories, fascinating visuals, and her advice for creating meaningful fiction and non-fiction writing. Mrs. Roe Pimm also impressed our teachers with her professional style and genuine connection to the children. Her assembly was very interactive, and her writing workshops were fun and comprehensive.

From her thrilling race car stories and her love of animals to her penchant for research and experience in the ups and downs of publishing , Nancy Roe Pimm provides the perfect balance of state-standards and pure enjoyment for all elementary students.

(Linda and Nancy) share their craft of writing, both fiction and nonfiction in their authentic “Wild About Writing” workshops (large group and small grade-level groups), which aligns with the CORE curriculum. Their hands-on, innovative workshops provide a great opportunity for additional nonfiction writing experiences in the classroom. Their work covers grades K-8, so all of our students benefited from their visit. Nancy and Linda support students to believe in their dreams through meaningful and supportive writing experiences. They are an amazing team with enthusiasm that spills over into their love of continuous learning through writing!

Looking for a great author visit and one that meets Common Core standards? Look no further! Wild About Books presented by authors Nancy Roe Pimm and Linda Stanek will engage your students and teachers with all fiction and nonfiction has to offer. You can truly maximize your budget and planning with scheduling their workshops, both whole group and small group. With our recent visit, both authors were able to reach ALL students grades 3-5 twice throughout the day. Their presentation would certainly work well for students grades K-8.

The whole group assembly captured our students’ interest and imagination with an engaging presentation full of racing artifacts and background information about researching and writing about animals. I was truly impressed with how Nancy and Linda both put a great deal of preparation and hard work into their visit. During the small group workshops, classes learned about the importance of writing both fiction and nonfiction in a highly creative way. It is obvious that Nancy and Linda love what they do, and want to make it a great day for all!

Teachers praised both authors too, regarding their messages about researching a topic and revising your work. Students loved relating puzzles to the writing process. The optional visit from the Columbus Zoo is a must to end your special day! Students are still talking about the visit and are always requesting to check out their titles from our library. Having many books to choose from and purchase was also helpful to parents-an added benefit of having two authors visit together. Teachers commented that this was the BEST author visit they had seen in years! I agree. So glad we chose Wild About Books!

Nancy Roe Pimm visited our school in March of 2013. She spoke to more than 800 students in a two day period. It was an amazing event for our school. She talked about her journey as an author and about the importance of striving to reach her dreams. She was very inspirational. Students listened with great interest and asked terrific questions after her presentation. They were excited to see the many things she brought with her, including parts of a race car and old manuscripts of early books. She engaged the students and really gave them a glimpse into the world of being an author.

I would highly recommend Nancy Roe Pimm to come to your elementary/middle school building. She was so easy to work with in planning our visit and was a pleasure to have at our school. She walked the halls to see all of the projects our students had done in preparation for her visit. She was appreciative of this work and talked individually with many students and teachers. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful author/speaker living right in our own backyard!

Willis Intermediate School

Our 5th and 6th graders thoroughly enjoyed her presentations. Nancy was lively, friendly and engaging with our students. Nancy gave presentations to students in a large group setting where our students learned about gorillas and racing. Her presentation included pictures, gorilla videos, racing gear and pit trash. Nancy also talked with the students about believing in themselves and never giving up on their dreams. Nancy met with smaller groups of students for a writing workshop and student luncheon. Our students found her to be friendly easy to talk to. Nancy was very willing to spend time talking with each student and was very helpful with several students who had specific questions about writing and publishing. I would definitely recommend Nancy Roe Pimm to other schools.

The author visit of Linda Stanek and Nancy Roe Pimm was a huge success for Circleville’s Elementary Schools! The visits consisted of them presenting to the different grades information about their books, being writers, and the importance of reading over the course of a two day period. It was amazing to observe the children’s excitement of learning new and interesting information such as how heavy an elephant tooth is or what the yellow flag means in a race car event. What I liked as a teacher was the children’s once in a lifetime opportunity to be able to interact with the authors and the props that they brought! Really…how often are kids going to get the opportunity to touch a real race car tire used in a race or see what a monkey biscuit looks like?

The second day of their visit, both authors spent over an hour signing books for our students and families at our evening event. They took the time to get their pictures taken with the students and answer questions about their books and writing for over 275 people who attended our evening event, the most ever for our district. It was simply an amazing night for all! Ever since their visits I have received several emails and phone calls from staff and parents thanking me for having such wonderful authors come to our district to present to our children. On top of that, I still have children asking me when the two authors are going to be coming back, a true indicator that we picked the right authors to bring to our district! I can honestly say that Linda Stanek and Nancy Roe Pimm’s visit was simply outstanding!

Buckeye Valley West Elementary hosted author, Nancy Roe Pimm in May 2009. Students and staff found her presentation very engaging as well as educational. Nancy’s nonfiction books Indy 500:The Inside Track and The Heart of the Beast: Eight Great Gorilla Stories proved to be of great interest to all students from Kindergarten through Fifth grade. Nancy was wonderful to have at our school. The kids loved seeing the real live pit trash and being able to hear the sounds of the gorilla’s. She did a great job of interacting with the kids when they created their own story following the criteria she uses when writing her own stories.

I have to tell you what a terrific presentation of your books you provided for my second grade class. My students loved it! The presentation was lively and interesting. Your added sense of humor and knowledge of racing really helped the children’s enjoyment and learning experience. Allowing the students to actually see and touch your husband’s racing gear was a really wonderful addition to the presentation. It allowed the students to imagine themselves at an actual race track. My entire grade level cannot wait for your next book to come out and for you to present it to our school. Hope you come back again soon! Thank you again!

Just a couple of weeks ago I had a fantastic author visit program from Nancy Roe Pimm. She wrote the children’s book “Indy 500: the Inside Track”. Her husband is a former Indy 500 race car driver. She made an excellent presentation to an audience of children and adults. Even though she isn’t “famous” yet, her book subject is interesting to children and adults, especially here in the Hoosier state. She brought many artifacts to share with the audience (a driver’s seat, pit crew uniform, shoes, face mask, etc.) which helped personalize the presentation. For school visits, she talks about how she started to write stories and shows the first book she wrote and illustrated at age 10. She lives near Columbus, Ohio, so transportation wouldn’t be a big issue. I highly recommend her!
